The SMU football program has suspended Teddy Knox due to his involvement in the multi-car crash on a Dallas highway in late March that also involved Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice.
SMU issued a statement on Wednesday after receiving notice of an arrest warrant for Knox.
“SMU has been notified by Dallas Police of an arrest warrant for Theodore ‘Teddy’ Knox, a student-athlete on the Mustang football team,” the university stated. “Knox has been suspended from the team. SMU takes these allegations seriously. Federal student privacy laws prevent the university from discussing details involving student disciplinary proceedings.”
Knox was driving a Corvette on U.S. 75, while Rice was driving a Lamborghini SUV, when both drivers lost control of the vehicles resulting in a six-car crash. Knox and Rice reportedly fled the scene. Two people were taken to the hospital as a result of the crash.
Rice faces eight charges in the case—six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and one count of aggravated assault, per an arrest warrant for the Chiefs’ wide receiver. Knox faces the same charges as Rice.
