There’s been some poor signings made by the club in the last couple of years, but Djordje Petrovic and Cole Palmer belong in the category of big successes.
In particular, Palmer’s been a revelation since joining from top-flight rivals Manchester City last summer.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has quickly become the poster boy around Stamford Bridge.
He’s now up to 12 goals and 10 assists in 32 Chelsea appearances across all competitions.
Petrovic, 24, has now showered Blues playmaker Palmer with some big praise.
When asked which Chelsea player is underrated, Petrovic told Sky Sports: “Before he signed for Chelsea, Cole [Palmer]. To be honest I didn’t expect from him how many goals and assists. Now he’s showed the quality.”
Cole Palmer very impressive
We agree that Palmer’s exceeded all expectations so far in Chelsea colours.
If you’re examining his £40 million transfer fee now (Sky Sports), it’s looking like a massive bargain.
Palmer’s receiving plaudits wherever you look for his impact in west London this season. Let’s remember he’s still only aged 21, too!
Speaking via ESPN recently, Arsenal and England star Declan Rice named Palmer as someone doing really well this year in Chelsea colours.
If Chelsea are to salvage their season in the final third, our guess is that Palmer will be central to any success they have with his technical excellence and efficiency.
Whether he’s starting as a right-winger, No 10 or false-nine, he simply makes an impact on any match.
In our view, he’s done more than enough to play his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euro 2024 tournament this summer. Our feeling is that the best is yet to come from him as well.
