The New England Patriots are entering a new era after their future Hall of Famers quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick departed.
This offseason the Patriots signed veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett to a one-year contract in March worth a base value of $8 million, for a second stint with the franchise.
Following in the 2024 NFL draft with the No. 3 pick, they went on to select UNC quarterback Drake Maye, as the two newly added QBs set to compete for the team’s starting job.
After Patriots QB starter, Mac Jones was sent to the Jacksonville Jaguars in March, Patriot’s new two quarterbacks have to set up a competition for the starting role in 2024.
Veteran QB Brissett seems more excited about the battle and the competition awaiting. He already had a connection with Maye, having previously met him through former Washington Commanders teammate Sam Howell.

The 31-year-old is ready to compete with the rookie, said would not have joined the Patriots if he was not willing to compete in training camp. He said he would focus on his improvement rather than worry about things “all out of my control.”
Brissett shared with ESPN,
“That’s all out of my control, so I don’t really worry about that. I’m excited to have him on the team, and the other guys as well that we drafted and picked up. I think it’s going to be good. Competition brings out the best in all of us, so I’m excited about that part.”
The new head coach, Jerod Mayo has shared, that the Patriots signed a 31-year-old to serve as a mentor, who has started 48 career NFL games and is viewed by the coaching staff as worthy of the role.
While Mayo was added to the team, plans to let competition determine who ultimately starts Week 1.
