Kylian Mbappe’s imminent transfer to Real Madrid comes at the expiration of his PSG contract, putting an end to the long-standing speculations linking him to the Bernabeu.

According to reports from Foot Mercato, the recent agreement between Mbappe and Real Madrid allows the Frenchman to explore other clubs starting from New Year’s Day, given his contractual situation. Despite Real Madrid’s earlier, more lucrative offer in 2022, the financial terms of this current agreement are reportedly lower.

Real Madrid had eyed Mbappe, 25, as their prime transfer target for years and consistently pursued him each summer. However, financial constraints hindered the move, especially after Karim Benzema’s departure to Saudi Arabia last summer, creating a void in their striking department.

Initially sidelined from the PSG first team after his refusal to extend his contract, Mbappe’s return was facilitated by manager Luis Enrique’s efforts, aiming to convince him to remain in Paris. Despite these efforts, it appears PSG will lose their star player without a transfer fee.
