Jon Bon Jovi shares anecdotes from Super Bowl 31 and explains how he met legendary football coach Bill Belichick.
âThey lost that Super Bowl to Green Bay,â Bon Jovi said in a recent appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, âand there’s this great history of Belichick and I on Saturday afternoon going and grabbing a drink on the walk back to the hotel. The Super Bowl was different in â96 than in 2024, a little bit. Right, and so we literally, in New Orleans, could go and grab one of those big sugary drinks and be half-buzzed on Saturday afternoon before a Super Bowl. You know that’s sort of where my relationships were.â
How did the prolific football coach and legendary musician cross paths in the first place? Bon Jovi says that he first met Bill Belichick while the coach was working with the New York Giants under the tutelage of Bill Parcells.
âBill Belichick and I go back some 34, 35 years,â said Bon Jovi. âWhen he, Charlie Weiss, Bill Parcells, who allowed me to come to practices back in the 80s because I was always so respectful and stayed out of the way. I took that long hair and put it in a cap and was the water boy, or the guy holding the plastic dish on the sidelines.â
Bon Jovi also shared an anecdote about t-shirts that he had made for the team. âI mean when the Giants won that Super Bowl against Buffalo, you could see it on NFL films, guys were actually wearing t-shirts that I had made up that were Bon Jovi shirts because this is a day and age before compression gear and all this stuff. They were wearing t-shirts under their uniforms, and they were Bon Jovi shirts.
A look back at Super Bowl 31: Green Bay Packers triumph over New England Patriots

The 1996 Super Bowl saw the rise of two that would become dominant forces in the 21st century NFL.
The Green Bay Packers struggled mightily as a franchise after Vince Lombardi left the team, but the entrance of Brett Favre in 1992 put the cheeseheads on the right path. The Patriots rose to prominence in 1993 thanks to the hiring of Bill Parcells and drafting quarterback Drew Bledsoe. Super Bowl 31 was a massive game for both franchises.
Ultimately, the Packers ended up defeating the Patriots with a score of 35-21.
In the following season, Parcells left the Patriots to become the head coach of the New York Jets. His protege Belichick followed and became the defensive coordinator.
Bill Belichick would eventually return to New England and take control of the most dominant team of the 2000âs and 2010âs. During the Bill Belichick and Tom Brady years in New England, the franchise won six Super Bowls and appeared in a handful of others, on top of winning countless awards and maintaining a stranglehold on the AFC East.
Belichick parted ways with New England this offseason, and did not land a head coaching job with another team. It remains an open question whether he will return to coach a different NFL team in the future.
Bill Belichick only needs 14 regular season wins to tie Don Shula (347) for the most all-time wins in NFL history. With that kind of glory on the line, itâs hard to imagine that we wonât see Belichick patrolling an NFL sideline again soon.
Green Bay Packers Just Got A Major Off-Season Win (Report)

The Green Bay Packers havenât been known for signing top-tier free agents. It had been years since the Packers dipped into the free agency pool in a massive way. However, 2024 saw them sign both Xavier McKinney and Josh Jacobs. Arguably two of the best on the market.
What they have been known for is signing their own to lucrative contracts. Rashan Gary, Jaire Alexander, Kenny Clark, Jordan Love (soon), and even Aaron Jones (even though this year didnât work out).
The Good News Keeps Coming For The 2024 Green Bay Packers

According to Wendell Ferreira of A to Z Sports:
Rashan Gary signed a four-year, $96 million deal. The most team-friendly aspect of the contract is that there are no guarantees after year 1 â the total guarantees are just $34.6 million. Practically, Green Bay wonât cut Gary before 2026, but they have more flexibility.
âItâs great to get that taken care of,â Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said right after the extension was reached. âObviously, itâs well-deserved and heâs earned everything. Iâm a big believer in people that approach it the right way, that are talented, that come to work with mindset and determination that he possesses. Heâs a tone-setter. So, Iâm really happy for him, Iâm happy for our organization.â
Eighteen months after declining two firsts and a third-round pick from the Los Angeles Rams for Brian Burns, the Panthers couldnât find an agreement, so they ended up trading him to the New York Giants for a second-rounder. Burns signed a five-year, $141 million contract ($28.2 million per year), with $87.5 million in guarantees.
Last year, even coming back from an ACL injury, Gary had 60 pressures (one pressure every 6.4 pass rush snaps, according to PFF data). Meanwhile, Burns had 40 pressures (one every 9.15 pass rush snaps).
But the difference is probably not that big, especially projecting future performance. Either way, Allen got a five-year, $150 million deal with $88 million in guarantees. The $30 million yearly average is third among defensive players, only behind Nick Bosa and Chris Jones.

It has been widely rumored that the Packers could be in line to sign another free agent this off-season. Safety still remains a need for this team and there are numerous veterans available.
They recently added another cornerback to their roster. More could be on the way.
